KEY TAKEAWAYS: REDACTED MUELLER REPORT

Here are key takeaways from the redacted Mueller report:

BARR MISLED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE: Barr’s cherry-picked summary that said the Trump campaign did not coordinate with Russia left out a key part that suggests the Trump campaign was willing to collude with Russia.

ABUNDANT EVIDENCE OF OBSTRUCTION: Mueller’s report made clear that the Special Counsel did not by any stretch of the imagination exonerate Trump of obstruction of justice.

TRUMP TRIED TO OBSTRUCT JUSTICE: Trump “engaged in efforts to curtail the Special Counsel’s investigation” and although he was unsuccessful in obstructing justice, it was not for a lack of trying.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN SHARED POLLING INFO WITH RUSSIANS: Paul Manafort shared internal polling with a Russian agent for “months” and discussed campaign strategy for winning votes in the Midwest with him.

TRUMP KNEW ABOUT WIKILEAKS: Trump had advance notice that WikiLeaks would release more damaging information before they put it out, and directed his campaign to find Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails.

TRUMP SAYS JUMP, RUSSIAN SPIES SAY HOW HIGH: Trump asked Russia to find Hillary Clinton’s missing emails. Five hours later, Russia tried to hack Hillary Clinton’s personal office.

CONGRESS MUST CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE: Mueller left the question of obstruction of justice to Congress, who will continue their investigations to get to the bottom of Trump’s actions.

RELEASE THE FULL UNREDACTED REPORT: Despite this report only being “lightly redacted,” it’s clear there is still a lot we don’t know. The full unredacted report must be released to Congress.

DNC Announces Expansion of War Room

2019 APR 11 – Adrienne Watson & Nick Bauer are excited to announce a dramatic expansion of the DNC’s War Room:

We previewed our hyper-local strategy for the next 19 months with NBC News (story HERE), and we’d love your help getting the word out.  Please retweet us, follow our new Facebook page, and most importantly – let us know how we can help you over the coming months!  (toptalkers@press.dnc.org)

BACKGROUND ON THE DNC WAR ROOM:

The War Room is a research and rapid response unit made up of dozens of research, communications and mobilization staffers who are entirely dedicated to getting Trump out of the White House.

  • The DNC’s War Room houses the most experienced Trump team in politics. Nearly the entire team has worked on Trump since the last presidential campaign, and the research team built the original and most comprehensive trove of research on Donald Trump.
  • We have assembled the most extensive collection of resources on Trump – better than any organization in the Democratic ecosystem. Over the past three years, we have collected more than 7000 lawsuits, filed thousands of FOIAs, combed local media for hundreds of local stories about the impact of Trump’s policies, and closely monitored and compiled information about every aspect of the Trump administration. Reporters from every major publication regularly request research from the DNC.
  • Over the past three years, the team has shaped the overall narrative on Trump, underpinned some of the most important narratives about his business career, candidacy and presidency, and made daily life for the Trump administration very difficult. The War Room placed front-page stories torpedoing confirmations, introduced key themes like his conflicts of interest, highlighted the on-the-ground impacts of Trump policies, and supplied Democratic surrogates with what they need to take the fight to Trump on TV, radio and other mediums.

As we move into the 2020 cycle, the War Room is re-launching with a broader mission and more public role in the party’s fight to defeat Trump, and hold his administration and the Republican Party accountable. For the next eighteen months, the War Room will hold Trump and Republicans accountable across a variety of mediums, relying more heavily on digital content to get the facts out, counter the White House message, and localize the impacts of the Trump administration in a way that has never been done before in a presidential election.

Key Tactics for 2019 and 2020:

HYPER-LOCAL BATTLEGROUND STRATEGY: The War Room will localize the Trump presidency in an unprecedented way, giving voters across the country highly relevant information for them and their communities that they don’t get from watching cable news. Much of this will be done through amplifying under-the-radar stories of Americans hurt by Trump’s policies, providing localized information on the impacts of policies like ACA repeal, and supplying research-based digital content for social media users to share within their communities.

  • The DNC has devoted the majority of its communications team to an early and sustained media onslaught in key states. Four full-time battleground communicators will hold Trump accountable every day on a hyper-local level.
  • The DNC’s relationship with state parties gives the War Room a resource that few others can claim: experienced and senior operatives and offices in all 50 states. Our battleground communicators will be working hand-in-hand with state parties to make sure the War Room is always operating with the best understanding possible of what’s really happening on the ground.
  • The War Room will be a one-stop shop for state parties, online activists, and others in the ecosystem to counter Trump on the ground in battleground states with localized information, assistance with bracketing events and press conferences around Trump visits, and other resources. This work will spotlight the hurt he has brought to communities and provide an opportunity to educate and organize key voters. Most importantly, they result in ample local coverage of Trump’s betrayal of the middle class.
  • Before Trump visits a battleground state, the War Room publishes all the promises that Trump made in the same state during his first campaign for president, and reveals how Trump has failed to follow through. The War Room will organize social media users in battleground states to share content, connect with each other and mobilize.

DISRUPTIVE ONLINE CONTENT: The War Room will flood the zone, especially online, with content that no one else in Democratic politics is able to provide, spotlighting highly localized and human impacts of Trump’s betrayal of the middle class. We will use tested digital organizing strategies to supply grassroots supporters, thought leaders, and members of the media with massive amounts of anti-Trump content at the speed needed to keep up with today’s news environment.

  • The War Room will focus on distributing content about and telling the stories of Americans who have been betrayed by Trump’s policies and broken promises,  using research, original direct-to-camera material, and the results of its monitoring of hundreds of local media markets around the country. No other entity has the capacity to monitor so many small and medium media markets, and then clip and distribute the video in real time.
  • Every day, the War Room will post and distribute to Twitter influencers a regular stream of clips of the Trump administration or the RNC lying to the American people. Influencers will amplify these to bring awareness to the lies coming directly from Trump’s team.
  • To combat the Republicans’ mass misinformation, the War Room fact checks Trump’s rallies in real time on Twitter so reporters and Americans across the country can push back on partisan propaganda and hold Trump accountable using localized information and stories directly from voters.

FOCUSING THE CHORUS: We want everyone to be saying the same message and saying it louder. To complement the message on Trump, we’ll also be telling a proactive story about what it means to be a Democrat. For example, we will hold Trump and Republicans accountable for wanting to take away people’s health care while making clear that Democrats are the ones who want to expand health care.

  • The War Room is already developing the next generation of Democratic communicators who can help hold Trump accountable. The War Room is providing them with free media training, booking them, and tracking voters’ reactions to their appearances.
  • The War Room will provide tested messaging to Democratic organizations and candidates. We will also release daily detailed talking points to an enormous list of Democratic talkers on how best to combat Republican propaganda, misinformation and conspiracy theories. We have staffers devoted to prepping surrogates, and they are available throughout the day and evening to provide pushback at a moment’s notice.
  • Past war rooms have focused on booking surrogates on cable news, despite the fact that most people get their news from local media and new media. The DNC’s War Room has expanded its priorities to focus on these outlets. We will increase our engagement with local trusted voices, like state representatives, mayors and other elected officials, to push back against the Trump administration. The War Room is also creating a separate program for Twitter influencers that will provide them with tailored and unique content to better shape our narrative online.

GCDC Update

2019.03.21 – Gilmer democrats had a great meeting tonight!  Here is some news shared at the meeting.

We need every Democrat to help with this terrible legislation!

The Georgia House has passed HB 481, the “Heartbeat Bill.”  It is now in the Senate and may be voted as soon as next week.

“Heartbeat Bills” are being introduced in many states as part of a right-wing strategy to advance anti-abortion legislation to the Supreme Court. With the recent appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, it has been widely theorized that laws such as these may be not be deemed unconstitutional, restricting abortion access in many states and thus making Roe v. Wade obsolete.

A similar bill has been struck down in Iowa but we can’t be sure other courts will do the same.

According to HB 481:

❌ Abortions would be banned after 6 weeks (before most women even know they’re pregnant) – and potentially threaten Roe vs. Wade.
❌ If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, she must file a police report to get the care she needs.  (Think of a young teen having been raped by a stepfather, for example!)
❌ A white male legislator is given more power over a pregnant woman’s body than she, herself, has.

If HB 481 passes the Senate, it will make Georgia the most dangerous state to be a woman in America – period. Contact your senator RIGHT NOW to tell them to stop the ban.

Send a postcard to:

The Honorable Steve Gooch
421-F State Capitol
Atlanta, GA 30334

Call his Atlanta office:   (404) 656-9221

Send him a Fax:   (404) 651-6768

Write his District Office:

The Honorable Steve Gooch

Dahlonega, GA 30533

Those who attended the meeting tonight signed pre-addressed postcards to be sent.

If you do not act, who will?

State Democratic Party elections

State Party elections were held on January 26, and we have new State officers.  Josh McCall is now our District Coordinator, having been elected to replace David Robinson.

Legislation Monitoring

Are you interested in monitoring legislation in Georgia or the U.S. Congress?  If so, let us know.  We are looking for someone to sign up for LegiScan.com to monitor Georgia State House bills and let us know what is going on at our monthly meetings.  The U.S. Congress’ bills also can be monitored online through the Federal Register.  If you would like to help, we need you!

Monthly Gilmer Democrat Meetings

The Gilmer County Democratic Committee has recommended new activities for our meetings.  At every meeting:

1.       An issue of timely political importance will be discussed, and action will be facilitated by making pre-addressed postcards available to all attendees.  We are pleased to announce that the first of these discussions will be led by Jack Neumeyer at the April meeting on the subject of immigration.

2.      We will be appointing individuals to make a presentation at each meeting about a candidate for President.  This will enable us to get to know about the candidates’ policies and proposal for action if they become President.  Thank Beth Williams, who will make the April presentation about Kamala Harris, and Terry Woehr who will tell us about Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

3.      We will continue to meet at Mountain Light Unitarian-Universalist Church whenever possible.

4.      Instead of using money for food that could be used to support Democratic candidates, future meetings will be “potluck.”

Melba Gandy
Chair, Gilmer County Democratic Committee

General Meeting 2019 JAN 10

Our next meeting will feature speaker Sarah Riggs Amico, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor in the recent election.  She was a victim of voter fraud and will discuss it with us on January 10.  Meeting begins at 6 PM.

Please note that the venue has changed.  We will now be meeting at Mountain Light Unitarian Universalist Church, 2502 Tails Creek Road, Ellijay GA.

DNC Update: Trump-Putin Summit

2018 JUL 19 – At least three times over this past week Trump has denied Russia’s interference in our elections and continuing threat to our democracy:

  • In a press conference with Putin, Trump said he didn’t see any reason why Russia would be responsible for interfering in our election.
  • The next day, Trump questioned our intelligence community’s finding that Russia interfered in our election, saying it could have been someone else.
  • Trump was asked if Russia continues its efforts to interfere in our elections, and he responded, “no.”

Trump’s repeated denials of Russia’s interference in our elections came just days after his own Justice Department charged 12 Russian officials for conspiring to interfere in our elections, charging that as part of this attack, the Russians:

  • Hacked the Democratic National Committee.
  • Hacked the website of a state election board.
  • Stole information related to approximately 500,000 voters.

U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies have repeatedly confirmed that Russia interfered in our election, and Trump’s own appointees have warned Trump about Russia’s work to undermine future elections. Yet, Trump continues to cast doubt.

FBI Director Christopher Wray yesterday warned that “Russia attempted to interfere with the last election and that it continues to engage in malign influence operations to this day.”

DNI Dan Coats even compared the threat we face today with what U.S. intelligence officials said before 9/11: “Here we are nearly two decades later and I’m here to say the warning lights are blinking red again.”

Instead of denying these facts, the Trump administration should take steps to protect our democracy and the American people — that’s what a leader would do.

Unfortunately, the American people have seen that they cannot trust this president to put our national security over his own political interests — he always puts himself first.

It’s time for Republicans to hold Trump accountable, put country over party, and join Democrats in taking necessary action to defend against future attacks. Here’s what Republicans can do:

  • Increase sanctions against Russia.
  • Pass bipartisan legislation to secure our election systems.
  • End their partisan attacks on the Justice Department, the FBI, and special counsel.
  • Take action to protect the special counsel’s investigation.
  • Demand that Trump insist the 12 Russians indicted last week be sent to the U.S. to stand trial.

The Illusion of Truth from Trump

**ICYMI**

“The DNC servers were never missing. The DNC provided the FBI with a copy of their server… We rate this statement False.”

PolitiFact: Donald Trump’s ‘missing’ server comments get all of the details wrong

Standing beside Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump answered reporters’ questions about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and if he believed Putin’s denials over his own intelligence community’s findings.

Instead of answering the question directly, Trump began discussing servers.

“You have groups that are wondering why the FBI never took the server — haven’t they taken the server. Why was the FBI told to leave the office of the Democratic National Committee? I’ve been wondering that, I’ve been asking that for months and months and I’ve been tweeting it out and calling it out on social media. Where is the server? I want to know where is the server and what is the server saying?

“With that being said, all I can do is ask the question. My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. But I really do want to see the server.”

Moments later, Trump added, “What happened to the servers of the Pakistani gentleman that worked on the DNC? Where are those servers? They’re missing; where are they?”

Trump’s rhetorical question gets the details wrong.

You could take Trump’s words to mean a DNC server has gone missing, but that’s not true. And as for the “Pakistani gentleman,” Trump is referring to a House IT staffer who did not work for the DNC and who government investigators concluded did not steal or leak computer data.

The DNC server

On July 13, the Justice Department charged 12 Russian intelligence officers with hacking the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Hillary Clinton campaign staffers.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment confirms previous findings from the U.S. intelligence community. In April 2016, Russian intelligence officials installed spying software on the computer network of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which works to elect members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The hack in turn allowed them access to 33 Democratic National Committee computers. The emails obtained through the hack were pushed out on social media beginning in June 2016, and Wikileaks soon joined that effort.

At some point, the FBI and DNC started working together to fight the hack and investigate how it happened, but DNC was slow to react to the FBI’s initial warning that their server had been compromised.

During former FBI director James Comey’s testimony to the House Intelligence Committee, Comey was asked whether the FBI had ever received the DNC’s hacked hardware.

He said they did not, but obtained access from a review of the system performed by CrowdStrike, a third-party cybersecurity firm.

“We got the forensics from the pros that they hired which — again, best practice is always to get access to the machines themselves, but this, my folks tell me, was an appropriate substitute,” Comey said.

DNC spokeswoman Adrienne Watson told PolitiFact that the DNC cooperated with the FBI’s requests, which resulted in the DNC providing a copy of their server.

“An image of a server is the best thing to use in an investigation so that your exploration of the server does not change the evidence (just like you don’t want investigators leaving their own DNA around a physical crime scene) and so that the bad actors cannot make changes to the evidence while you are looking at it,” Watson said. “Any suggestion that they were denied access to what they wanted for their investigation is completely incorrect.”

We found no indication that the FBI had renewed their request to gain access to the actual server, or that investigating the server copy would have prevented the FBI from tracking down the culprits. (The FBI declined to comment.)

[…]

Our ruling

Trump said, “The servers of the Pakistani gentleman that worked on the DNC” are “missing.”

The DNC servers were never missing. The DNC provided the FBI with a copy of their server, rather than the original hardware, but Comey testified that the evidence was an appropriate substitute.

Awan, the “Pakistani gentleman” in the news, never worked for the DNC. Conservative news outlets suggested he had stolen a House Democratic server, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office found no evidence of such theft.

We rate this statement False.

LET’S MAKE HISTORY TOGETHER IN 2018!

DNC Upate: Indictments

2018 JUL 13 – The Russian government attacked our democracy in 2016 and the Democratic National Committee was a primary target of this attack. Those are the facts.

Today’s indictment gives us a detailed and disturbing look at just how sophisticated, well-funded, and wide-ranging Russia’s attack on our democracy really was. It should send chills up the spine of every American.

The DOJ indictment added details such as Russian intelligence officers’ intrusion into the website of a state election board and theft of information related to approximately 500,000 voters.

Trump still refuses to condemn the Kremlin’s attack on our democracy or take steps to defend our elections against future attacks. Instead of standing up for our democracy, Trump has repeatedly put his own selfish interests ahead of our national security.

In 2016, the Trump campaign stood by while Russia interfered with our election and did nothing but encourage the Kremlin to continue.

Despite Trump’s intelligence chiefs saying they fully expect Russia to attack our elections again this year, FBI Director Wray said that Trump has not specifically directed his agency to prevent future interference.

The American people deserve to know the truth and the special counsel’s investigation is ongoing. The Kremlin’s efforts to disrupt our electoral process have grave implications for our democracy.

Donald Trump and his Republican enablers’ efforts to discredit these established facts only embolden Putin’s Russia and invite further attacks on our country.

It’s long past time for him and his allies in the GOP to stop ignoring this urgent threat to our national security.

DNC: Trump’s SCOTUS Pick

2018 JUL 10:  Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Kavanaugh, is a threat to Americans’ health care and women’s rights. If confirmed, he will be an extremist on the Supreme Court bench, where he will be able to carry out a far-right agenda long after Trump leaves office.

This is the most consequential Supreme Court nomination in a generation and will affect monumental decisions made for the next half century. It could roll back women’s rights, and the right to affordable and accessible health care, for decades to come.

We know Kavanaugh will overturn Roe v. Wade and gut the Affordable Care Act, because Trump himself said these would be litmus tests for his nominee.

“It is. It is.” – Trump, on whether overturning Roe v. Wade would be a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees, 2015

“I will be appointing pro-life judges.” – Trump, 2016

“If we appoint strict constructionists to the Supreme Court as Donald Trump intends to do, I believe we’ll see Roe vs. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history.” – Pence, 2016

“If I win the presidency, my judicial appointments will do the right thing unlike Bush’s appointee John Roberts on Obamacare.” – Trump, 2015

Kavanaugh’s past record and rhetoric show that he would be a threat to Americans’ health care and women’s rights.

In his 2012 dissent on a ruling that upheld the ACA, Kavanaugh suggested that a future president could refuse to enforce the ACA even if it had been upheld by the courts.

Kavanaugh dissented from a ruling that upheld the constitutionality of the ACA’s birth control benefit.

Kavanaugh was part of a three-judge panel that temporarily blocked a migrant teenager in HHS custody from obtaining an abortion.

Kavanaugh also has a record of siding with powerful interests over consumers and workers – such as when he argued that Obama-era net neutrality rules that benefited millions of consumers were unlawful and issued an opinion declaring that  the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was unconstitutional .

Kavanaugh has expressed disturbing views of presidential power and would fail to be an independent check on Trump. He believes the president is above the law.

Democrats may not have a majority in the Senate, but the vast majority of Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade and support preserving the ACA’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

67 percent of Americans don’t want the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

91 percent of Americans say it’s important to maintain the ACA’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions, which the Trump administration is urging a federal court to eliminate.

We blocked health care repeal last year because Americans came together, spoke out, and held Republican senators accountable. We can do it again.

Call your senator today and say that a vote for Kavanaugh would be a vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and undo the Affordable Care Act. This is unacceptable.

There’s no doubt that the November midterm elections will be the most important of our lifetime. We must make our voices heard at the ballot box for the millions of American families who are counting on us.

*Two candidates on the ballot had verbally indicated that they would stand for election to the Committee, but did not qualify for failure to file the required “Application to Serve” prior to the election.  If these individuals continue to wish to serve, they may request that the new Committee, which has the power to fill vacant seats, appoint them.
