Trump Renews Vow To Repeal ACA

  • As the headliner at the NRA convention last week, Trump renewed his vow to kill the ACA and take health care away from millions of Americans.

    • Trump said he’s coming for “the rest” of the ACA, after he and Senate Republicans failed to fully repeal the law.

  • Meanwhile, a new poll shows that voters continue to put health care as their top issue in the 2020 election, and by a 17-point margin are more likely to oppose than support Trump because of his handling of the issue.

  • The Trump administration escalated its attacks on Americans’ health care by supporting a lawsuit to overturn the entire Affordable Care Act, including its pre-existing condition protections.

    • Neither the White House nor Republicans in Congress even have a plan to replace the ACA should they succeed in overturning the law.

  • Trump said that he wants to put off a vote on a plan to replace the ACA until after the 2020 election. This is exactly why we need to elect a Democratic president.

    • Trump has proven time and time again that any plan he comes up with will kick millions off of their health insurance and return to the days when insurers could discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions.

  • For nearly a decade, Republicans have tried and failed to kill the ACA. Overturning the ACA would be a major setback for efforts to address the opioid crisis and lower prescription drug prices — two major areas that Trump has promised to prioritize.

  • Trump repeatedly promises that he will preserve protections for people with pre-existing conditions even as he continues to back efforts that would undermine or completely erase those provisions.

  • Democrats believe health care is a right, not a privilege – and so do the American people. It’s time for the Trump administration and Republican leaders to stop playing games with people’s lives.
