H.R. 1

2019.03.08 – Background: Today the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 1, the For the People Act.

  • After making historic gains in the House, Democrats immediately got to work for the people and introduced H.R. 1., the For the People Act.

  • H.R. 1 includes provisions to strengthen our election systems and  make it easier, not harder, for people to vote.

    • The legislation creates a nation-wide automatic voter registration, ensures that individuals who have completed felony sentences have their full rights restored, and expands early voting and absentee voting.

  • H.R. 1 will also reduce the role of money in politics and restore transparency, accountability and unity to government.

  • The White House has threatened to veto, and McConnell has already refused to take up, this bold, transformative legislation that puts the power back in the hands of the people and cleans up the corruption in Washington.

    • Republicans are beholden to special interests and won’t take action to make Washington work for the people.
