9th District Democratic Women’s Network Resolution

in Support of Gun Control

WHEREAS, more American children have been killed with guns between January 1 and May 18, 2018, while attending their public schools than American soldiers have died in American military actions during the same period (Washington Post, May 18, 2018; wapo.st/2rTOJ8B); and

WHEREAS, we, the women of the 9th DDWN do not believe that more guns are the solution to deaths by guns;

NOW, THEREFORE, we encourage our membership, our political party, and our Nation to work steadfastly and with all available resources to:

  • Institute a viable, credible, legislatively required system of background checks on all gun purchases, wherever the purchase may be made;
  • Prohibit the sale of firearms to children under the voting age;
  • Pass legislation to hold parents fully, legally, responsible for the use of a firearm by a minor child that results in the death or injury of that child or another human being due to an unsecured firearm kept in the home; and
  • Ban, through Federal legislation, assault weapons, bump stocks, and high-capacity magazines in the hands of citizens other than law enforcement officials and the military.

Passed unanimously this 19th day of May 2018.
